Jews for Abortion Access, a project of National Council of Jewish Women

In the wake of legislative assaults on reproductive health and rights, many Jewish community members were eager to find ways to voice their support for safe, accessible, and legal abortion. In October 2021, National Council of Jewish Women launched Jews for Abortion Access, a project to comprehensively engage and activate the Jewish community towards the work of abortion justice. Jews for Abortion Access is organized around three pillars: education, advocacy, and community service. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022, this work of coalescing and expanding Jewish communal work on abortion access is more urgent than ever before.

Jews for Abortion Access is activating Jewish constituencies nationwide — including clergy and future clergy, key Jewish leadership, the Jewish organizational ecosystem, the broader Jewish community and many Jews who are not connected to Jewish communal life — to expand abortion access for all. The project’s signature initiatives include “Rabbis for Repro,” a network of over 2,500 rabbis, cantors, maharot and other Jewish clergy and “Repro Shabbat,” a nationwide Shabbat dedicated to reproductive freedom and abortion access.

In preparation for the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, Jews for Abortion Access also launched a fund to enable the Jewish community to give collectively to a national abortion fund. Over the past year, the fund had raised over $1,000,000 that has directly helped 10,000 people access abortion care.

As the fight for abortion justice continues, Jews for Abortion Access is leading the way for a better future.
