Celebrating Latin-Jewish heritage and multiculturalism

Jewish and Latinx communities have rich and varied multicultural stories that are deeply intertwined but rarely celebrated in the public eye. Jewtina y Co.’s mission is to nurture Latin-Jewish community, identity, leadership and resiliency, and celebrate Latin-Jewish heritage and multiculturalism. Founded in 2019, Jewtina y Co. envisions a world in which the global Jewish and Latino/e/x communities can celebrate their heritage joyfully, and work together to interrupt inequities.

Offering a mix of leadership development programs as well as opportunities for audio and visual storytelling, Jewtina y Co. is raising the profile of Latin-Jews on the international stage. Jewtina y Co.’s PUENTES Leadership & Resiliency Fellowship provides participants with the opportunity to engage in a four-month program with other Latin-Jews. The experience includes in-person and virtual learning workshops and community gatherings, and aims to empower participants to spark change in their own communities. The VOCES Project — another Jewtina y Co. initiative — elevates the stories of people who identify as Latin and Jewish. Through blogging and podcast episodes, participants sound off on an array of topics, such as the Jewish community in El Salvador, Sephardic culture, Ladino, multiracial identities, immigration, and much more.

A Jewish-Latinx woman who lives in Minnesota shared, “My family’s history is a history of resiliency, immigration and exploration. It’s been transformative to feel like I can be part of a community that not only acknowledges my story but sees it as worthy and vital to the very fiber of the Jewish and Latinx story.”

Jewish experiences have always been multi-faceted, and thanks to Jewtina y Co., the narratives and voices of Latin-Jewish heritage are enriching the Jewish community and the broader world.
