A Portrait of Jewish Giving Today | A Deep Dive into What Drives Next Generation Jewish Givers and How to Support Their Leadership
Slingshot is excited to release a Portrait of Jewish Giving Today. This ethnographic study is a snapshot of what drives the next generation of Jewish givers today.
This study makes clear that NextGen funders are committed and ready to contribute meaningfully as they balance the heaviness of current events with a desire for joyful community engagement. In a time of upheaval and polarization, they are finding new ways to live their Jewish values, leading with empathy, clarity, and connection including:
- They prioritize quality and impact over visibility or recognition, taking deliberate steps to grow as leaders.
- They value curiosity, questioning, and leaders who model reflection, critical thinking, and courage.
- They aim to impact both Jewish and broader societal contexts, integrating their values across spaces rather than choosing between them.
- They set high standards for themselves, thriving when given guidance, mentorship, and support to step confidently into philanthropic leadership.
- Notably, 97% said giving money is the most impactful way to make a difference, more so than volunteering time or other forms of engagement, underscoring the central role of financial contributions in how they lead and participate.
This generation isn’t drifting away, they’re asking for better tools, clearer paths, and spaces that hold both grief and joy. When we meet them there, they’re ready to lead.
